The Willans Green Debut project, which won the BRE Ecohomes award in 2006, consisted of 120 new build starter homes and adopted an innovative central services strategy to provide heat, hot water and power to each dwelling. The dwellings which were constructed in a modular arrangement of small blocks were a response to the Governments challenge for a £60,000 dwelling and the scheme was the forerunner for a succession of similar schemes.
